Android TV Boxes, what do they do?
With android tv box you can easily turn your TV into a multimedia entertainment system without spending hundreds on a new Smart TV. These small boxes will allow you to watch hundreds of movies, TV shows, live TV channels and make use of apps like Netflix, Kodi, HBO, Youtube, ITV Player, BBC Player and much more. All that you need for your Android TV Box is a good, stable internet connection and a TV!
Which Android TV Box to buy?
The boxes come loaded with most popular apps like Netflix or Kodi so they are ready to use straight after connecting to the internet. I will help you choose the right one as there are various models available and each has its own pros and cons. Sit down and relax, as I will guide you through the most recent and in my opinion up to specs android tv boxes. The market is filled with dozens of them, but I picked just three from different pricetag category to make it easier for you. Let’s begin.
1. ANTSIR AX9 with Amlogic S905X – 2017 Model
First box I’d like to introduce is a budget ANTSIR AX9. It’s rather budget Android TV Box and you shouldn’t expect much from its manufacturer. It is hard to find anything about the company online either.
It boasts an Amlogic S905X chipset with a quad-core Cortex A7 clocked at 1.5 GHz, 64 bit. This android TV Box also supports 4K resolution, thanks to Penta Core Mali-450MP2 GPU.
It works great with 4K videos in 30 fps which is more than enough. Equipped with the Android 6.0 operating system, it is still a good value for money. There’s 1 GB DDR3 RAM, could be a little bit more, but as this is a budget TV Box, we can’t expect to much.
The main issue is that it has just 8 GB eMMC Flash ROM. The OS takes nearly 4 GB of storage space, so we’re left with just 4 GB, which clearly is not enough, at least for me. It also has 2 x USB ports. The remote is somewhat generic, but sits well in your hand.
Good news is that you can connect mouse and keyboard via USB port if you want to. This Android TV Box also supports many video and image formats, such as H.264, H.265, VP9, HDR, HD AVC, Xvid, Mkv, Avi, Flv and many more.
Image formats that are supported: JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF and BMP. Big plus is, it supports FLAC, and almost any sound format out there you can think of. I mentioned earlier that it has not enough storage space, well, at least you can add some extra storage, as the box is equipped with card reader supporting SD/SDHC/MMC cards.
What probably interests most of the readers latest Kodi works great and you can install it through Google Play Store without any problems. It comes with many apps already installed which saves a lot of time, but if you need more apps, you can go to “TVMC” on the ANTSIR AX9 TV Box home page and from there you can install more software.
I think this is a good Android TV Box for the money, but the lack of storage and not enough RAM sometimes can be a problem. In my opinion it would need at least 16 GB of storage and at least 2GB RAM. Other than that, this is a great low-end Android TV box for not so demanding users.
Globmall X1 (2017 Model) Android 6.0 TV
Globmall X1 (2017 Model) Android 6.0 TV is a mid-level priced box. What makes it stand out from the rest is the advanced WIFI chip RTL8723 that makes the box running faster than other boxes on market. It also comes with a mini keyboard, a nice feature and saves a lot of time.
Based on the same good Amlogic S905X chipset with a quad-core Cortex A53 clocked at 2 GHz, 64 bit. Supports 4K and utilizes the latest version memory that allows you to enjoy faster read & write speed and make the TV BOX run more stable and smooth.
Equipped with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Penta-Core Mali-450, frequency @600MHz with HDMI 2.0 output, 1 GB DDR3 RAM and 8 GB eMMC Flash ROM this box is a very good value for money.
This Android TV Box supports all the most popular video and image formats:
Decoder format: HD MPEG1/2/4,H.265,4K-HD, HD AVC/VC-1,RM/RMVB, Xvid/DivX3/4/5/6 ,RealVideo8/9/10
Media format: Avi/Rm/Rmvb/Ts/Vob/Mkv/Mov/ISO/wmv/asf/flv/dat/mpg/mpeg
Music format: MP3/WMA/AAC/WAV/OGG/AC3/DDP/TrueHD/DTS/DTS/HD/FLAC/APE
Photo format: HD JPEG/BMP/GIF/PNG/TIFF
The box is also equipped with the card reader supporting microSD/SDHC/MMC cards.
Supports latest Kodi, Netflix, Youtube and many more great apps. As almost all Android TV Boxes this one comes with preinstalled apps which saves a lot of time.
A very good, reliable Android TV Box, and as ANTSIR A1 it would be great see more storage and ram. As the storage issue can be easily sorted out with SD card the amount of RAM is not changable. Big plus for adding mini keyboard.
H96 Pro+ Android 7.1 TV Box
The H96 Pro+ Android 7.1 powered by Amlogic Octa-core 64-bit ARM CortexTM-A53 up to 2GHz, plus 750MHz+ ARM Mali-820MP3 GPU processor is undoubtedly the top rated high-end Android TV Box in the market. Comes with 8 Core CPU, 32 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM. With the latest 7.1 Android OS the box runs faster and smoother than previous versions.
HD 4K 60fps display, 4K x 2K H.265 hardware video decode and 4K x 2K output with 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet Line Connection with 2.4G/5G Dual WIFI give you the ultra-fast running speed and run video flawlessly featuring high end media playback capabilities. HDR Vivid World allows you to watch videos in detail like never before with all these high contrast, colour and clarity features. This box is designed to deliver immersive theatre-lever home entertainment with excellent audio video processing capatibilities and I can tell it really does.
The H96+ Pro comes preloaded with apps and of course works magic with the latest Kodi, Netflix or any other streaming apps.
This Android TV Box is a high-end well designed and very stable piece of kit. Moreover, it comes with a bigger memory, faster and stable network connection and it has a clear and simple UI that makes it easier to navigate. What’s more it comes with mini wireless keyboard which makes this box real contender for number one spot along high-end Android TV Boxes. If you’re after buying one them certainly this is the box for you.
To Sum This All Up
We’ve seen three similar Android TV Boxes, two of them rather cheap and one more expensive. Antsir A1 is a budget box that can serve its purpose, but I wouldn’t expect much more of it. Lack of memory is reall issue there. Next box, Globmall X1 looks much better for the price and comes with free wireless keyboard which is great addition. Everyone who ever tried to type in some text with a TV remote knows the pain.
The last box – H96 Pro+ is in my opinion the best you can get. All three boxes do the same thing, but I think it is worth spending little bit more on a good piece of kit that has more ram, more storage and runs on the latest android 7.1.
